Traffic signal coming to Bretzville Junction

Look for a traffic light to be installed at the Bretzville Junction at SR 64 and SR 62 in the next few months.

It’s currently a flashing red but our media partner, WITZ Radio, reports that INDOT has confirmed the change.

The intersection has high traffic levels at certain times of the day when a larger volume of traffic flows between Ferdinand and Jasper.

First 3 sections of I-69 set to open Nov. 19

Governor Mitch Daniels and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) today announced that the first three sections of the new Interstate 69 corridor in southwest Indiana will officially open for business before the Thanksgiving travel holiday on the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 19. The highly anticipated grand opening will cover a 67-mile stretch that completes what has been the longest contiguous ongoing interstate construction project in the United States.

“Hoosiers will be glad to know that the new I-69 corridor connecting Evansville to Crane will be delivered several years ahead of schedule and nearly $80 million under budget,” said Gov. Daniels. “Many people said this interstate expansion wouldn’t happen in their lifetime, but it’s now poised to open and the result will be greater economic opportunity, faster and safer travel, improved connectivity, easier access for leisure travel and more.”

Five communities across southwest Indiana will host family friendly events on the new I-69 this Saturday. The events will be free, but organizers are asking attendees to bring canned goods to help local food pantries.

I-69 Community Day will represent the first time the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has permitted public access of this nature on an interstate under construction. Some of the special activities will include: a Little Miss Interstate Pageant, a hot air balloon flyover, various games for kids, a special skydiving exhibition, ceremonial remarks, charity 5k runs, food vendors, chalk art, antique tractor displays, horse and buggy rides, corn hole, putting contests and more.

I-69 Community Day events are scheduled in five locations including:

The Indiana Department of Transportation will provide limited access to sections of the nearly completed Interstate 69 corridor for celebratory Community Day events in October. This is the first time INDOT has allowed public access of this nature on an interstate highway under construction and community leaders plan to take advantage of this special opportunity before the new corridor opens later this year.

Community Day events on the interstate will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20 at five locations along the 67-mile stretch of the I-69 corridor including Pike and Gibson Counties. Each location will feature a variety of family friendly activities being planned by local organizing committees.
