Tony Ahrens begins his 10th year as head coach of the Jasper Wildcats, sporting an impressive 83-24 record.  The 'Cats lost to Central in the second round of the sectional in 2011.  This season opens with two road games.  Here's a look at the complete schedule:

Big turnout expected for Heartland Half Marathon and 5K

Over 700 participants are expected for the inaugural Heartland Half Marathon and 5K in Jasper next month.

The race is set for Saturday, September 2 (Labor Day weekend).

Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang told the Board of Public Works that 525 people are registered to run in the event right now.

5K run/walk to benefit Dubois Co. Humane Society

5K run/walk to benefit Dubois Co. Humane Society

The Dubois County Humane Society  is sponsoring a 5K Run/Fun Walk “5K to Save K9's” on Saturday, September 29, at the Jasper Youth Sports Complex, starting at 8:00 am.

Registration is $15 if pre-registered by September 15; $20 after September 15 and up to race day. 

T-shirts will be given the day of the run/walk to all pre-registered runners/walkers.  Entries postmarked after September 15  will receive a shirt based upon availability.

Holy Family School will present the 2nd annual Patoka Cardboard Boat Regatta at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11 on the Patoka River at the Jasper Riverwalk’s Buehler Plaza.

Guided kayak tour of Patoka Lake Saturday

A guided kayak tour on Patoka Lake this Saturday, June 23, will take paddlers to a beautiful rock quarry and waterfall and offers the chance to see beavers, bald eagles and other wildlife.

The event is free and open to the public.

Visitors should meet the Patoka Lake naturalist at the Patoka Lake visitors center to car caravan to the Little Patoka boat ramp. The caravan will leave promptly at 8:30 a.m. EDT.

3 on 3 tournament in Ferdinand Saturday

The Heimatfest, Town of Ferdinand, and the Forest Park Basketball Club 3-on-3 basketball tournament open division (high school graduates and older) is set to start Saturday morning, June 16 at 9 a.m., at the outdoor court at Ferdinand’s 18th Street Park.

The 7th grade, 8th grade, and high school divisions have been cancelled due to the low number of registered teams.  The slam dunk contest will also be cancelled.
