Ferdinand Summer Rec program announces schedule

The Recreation Division of the Town of Ferdinand Park Board has announced the schedule for the first two weeks of the free summer recreation programs for area youth ages 4 - 9. The programs, which will utilize 18th Street Park, run from 9 – 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 4. The program for 4-, 5-, and 6-year-olds is offered on Tuesdays throughout the summer. 7-, 8-, and 9-year-olds are invited to attend the program on Thursdays.  

Each recreation program to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays will incorporate activities involving competitions and games, arts and crafts, and sports. The programs are free to attend and there is no need to sign up in advance.  The activities for the first two weeks are as follows:

Buening hired as Southridge football coach

 

Southridge has hired Scott Buening as its new football coach.

Buening has spent the last several years at Jennings County but does have some Tri-State ties.  He started his career at Harrison, serving as the Warriors offensive line coach in 2001 and his wife’s family is from Rockport.

Buening will replace Kelly Murphy, who stepped down to focus on his role as interim principal.

Former Forest Park football player to get pro shot

Congratulations to Forest Park grad Nathan Jones who has reportedly been invited to the Cincinnati Bengals rookie camp this week.

Jones, who helped Marian to the NAIA national championship last fall, is one of the msot productive andv versatile small school players in the country.  He made his biggest mark as a tight end with the Indianapolis school.

Heimatfest 3-on-3 tournament returns; entries open

 

The Town of Ferdinand and the Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School boy's basketball program will, again, co-sponsor the fourth annual 3-on-3 Boys Basketball Tournament at this year's Heimatfest.  The tournament will take place at the 18th StreetPark basketball court on Saturday, June 22, 2013, beginning at 9 a.m. (EST).  The cost per four-player team is $40 with all proceeds benefitting the boy's basketball programs at Forest Park.  As was the case last year, the money will be used to help purchase uniforms for the program most in need.

IU coaches coming to Jasper, Evansville

 

The IU Varsity Club has released the schedule for the annual, summer IU Athletics Tailgate Tour, presented by Smithville. The 2013 tour features seven stops; six head coaches; Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass; and sportscaster Don Fischer.

The tour will come to the Jasper Riverwalk May 30 from 6-8 p.m. Two days earlier on the 28th, the coaches will be at Oak Meadow Country Club for a noon gathering.

Jasper High graduate Karen (Bauer) Stenftenagel will be inducted into the Indiana High School basketball Hall of Fame this weekend.  She joins 11 others as part of the 12th Women’s Induction Class on Saturday, April 27 in Indianapolis.

Weather will soon be prime for hiking in Hoosier National Forest

 

The weather will be getting warmer toward the end of the week.  That means it’s a great time for hiking and the Hoosier National Forest is inviting area residents to get out and explore.  There are over 260 miles of trails available for hiking in Hoosier National Forest.

In addition, hikers can go cross-country almost anywhere on the national forest.
