Police say missing Jasper girl has been found safe

DUBOIS CO, IN (WFIE)- The Jasper Police Department says they have located the Jasper teen who was reported missing since Monday night. 

Authorities say 16-year-old Ashley Schloesser has been located safe and unharmed. Police say she was found at Jasper residence around 9:45 Tuesday night, and is believed to have been there under her own free will.

Tuesday afternoon, authorities were looking for Schloesser, who at the time had last been seen about 8:30 p.m. Monday leaving Jasper's north side McDonald's.

Campground hosts needed at Patoka Lake, Lincoln State Park

Most of Indiana's state parks and reservoirs offer opportunities for campground hosts including Patoka Lake and Lincoln State Park. Hosts work a minimum of 20 hours per week in exchange for free camping for a specified period of time. The time period varies at sites, based on the number of applicants and the amount and type of work required.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says State Road 145 from State Road 64 (Birdseye) to Interstate 64 (Siberia) is back open after closing because of high waters Monday.

1925 Griffin Tornado Anniversary

Today is the anniversary of the Tri-State Tornado that is the worst tornado disaster in U-S history. On March 18, 1925, the storm had one of the longest paths…nearly 220 miles…of any recorded tornado. The three hour tour across Missouri, Illinois, and southwest Indiana claimed a tornado record 689 lives.

In Southwest Indiana, the tornado hit Griffin, Owensville, Princeton, and Petersburg. 26 killed in Griffin; 45 dead in Princeton. 100% of the town of Griffin was destroyed. To this day, Griffin, Indiana…is one of the few towns to be 100% destroyed by a tornado.

Jasper police officer steps down after investigation

JASPER, IN (WFIE)- Jasper Police Officer Dave Drew has quit the force.

In February, we reported that Drew's job was in jeopardy.

A meeting on his future was scheduled on Friday, but officials tell 14 News that Officer Drew has now submitted his letter of resignation.

Drew has been the subject of investigations by both the Jasper Police Department and Indiana State Police, dating back to February, Jasper Police Chief Michael Bennett recommended that the Jasper Board of Public Works should fire Drew following an internal investigation conducted by Jasper Police.
