Family of victim found dead in Patoka Lake grieves over loss

BIRDSEYE, IN. (WFIE)- The search for two men who fell out of their fishing boat in Patoka Lake comes to a tragic end Sunday night.

The family of one of the men says they're not only grieving their loss.  They're trying to find a way to pay for his funeral.

It's hard enough to deal with the loss of a loved one, without worrying about how to pay for that person's funeral.

However, in speaking to Matt Buroker's aunt and uncle, 14 News learned that is the situation that are facing and they would like some help from the community.

Dubois County Highway Dept. will get $400,000 in new equipment

Dubois County is in the market for some new equipment.  At the county council meeting this week, Highway Superintendent Steve Berg told the council that it’s time to replace three dump trucks, six salt and sand spraders and a new excavator.

That’s a pricey proposition:  $430,000 according to our media partner, WITZ Radio.

However, Berg says they’ve done all they can do at the garage to keep those trucks in operation and it’s time for replacements.

Wabash Valley Produce of Dubois is helping in the fight against hunger by donating nearly 300,000 eggs to Indiana food assistance organizations, including the local Community Food Bank, during the month of March.

Families continue to struggle to put food on their tables, leading more and more to turn to food assistance organizations across the country for help. In fact, more than 48 million Americans live in food insecure homes.

“We’re thrilled to donate much-needed protein to the Community Food Bank, along with the Tri-State Food Bank, Hoosier Hills Food Bank and Terre-Haute Catholic Charities, just in time for the Easter holiday,” stated Tom Seger of Wabash Valley Produce. “We take pride in giving back to our local community.”
