Jasper woman hit by semi

A Jasper woman was struck by a semi  Wednesday afternoon.

Our media partners at WITZ Radio say 28-year-old Erin Jones was trying to cross Newton Street in front of Applebee’s Restaurant around 3:45 when she was struck by a southbound semi driven by a Georgia man.

Police say the driver told them he could not avoid hitting Jones, who was taken to Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to another hospital for further treatment of her injuries.  She was reported in good condition Friday morning.

No charges were filed against the trucker, 55-year-old Larry Hill of Eatonton, GA.  His truck sustained $2,500 in damages.
