Ferdinand man thrown from vehicle, hurt in crash

A Ferdinand man was seriously injured Saturday night in a crash on CR 400 South in which both drivers were charged with drunk driving.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Office says Benjamin Schwoeppe was a passenger in a Jeep that collided with a 1984 Chevy pickup east of St. Anthony around 7:30 p.m.

He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled, according to a news release.

Two people were hurt Saturday afternoon when police say they were hit by an out of control drunk driver.

According to a Jasper Police report, 39-year-old Charles Kline of Loogootee became impatient with the slow flow of traffic and began tailgating and swerving in the southbound lane of Newton Street, north of 36th.

DUBOIS CO., IN (WFIE)- A passenger was seriously injured in a crash in Dubois County on Saturday night.

Dubois County Sheriff's deputies say drivers of both cars involved claimed the oncoming vehicle was in their lane as they approached from different directions on CR 400 S, just east of CR 700 E, when they crashed.

Deputies say passenger Benjamin Schwoeppe wasn't wearing his seat and was thrown from the SUV as it rolled. Schwoeppe was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he was then taken to St. Mary's by helicopter.

Three women were injured when a pickup truck collided with an SUV in Jasper Friday morning.

Police say it happened just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Holy Family Drive and Third Avenue.

An SUV driven by 53-year-old Elizabeth Weatherholt was heading south on 3rd.  A pickup driven by 24-year-old Brandon Enlow was at the stop sign waiting to turn onto 3rd.  Enlow told police he thought Weatherholt was signalling to turn onto Holy Family and he pulled onto 3rd, colliding with the SUV.

Jasper Police are looking for a hit and run driver who sent a teenage girl’s car into another lane of traffic.

Police say 18-year-old McKinley Lynch of French Lick was northbound on the inside lane of traffic on US 231 between 6th and 7th Streets late Thursday morning when a gray, luxury model passenger car tried to pass a slow moving semi.  While changing lanes, the suspect vehicle hit the right front end of the girl’s car.

The impact pushed Lynch’s vehicle into the southbound lane, where she nearly hit another vehicle.

Trailer breaks free, drifts into path of oncoming semi

An Otwell man was cited for traffic violations after the trailer he was pulling came unhitched from his pickup truck and rolled into the path of an oncoming semi, causing it to crash.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Office says Alberto Barrios was west bound on SR 56 about 2:25 Thursday his trailer came loose.  A semi driven by Thomas Linley of Brilliant, AL, then struck it, damaging the semi's steering.  That caused Linley to go off the other side of the road and strike a large embankment.

Linley was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for treatment.

Vectren customers paying their bills online, now have the opportunity to round the payment up to the nearest dollar, donating the additional amount to Share the Warmth Inc. Share the Warmth, a nonprofit organization, annually allocates funds to Indiana Community Action Agencies to administer Indiana’s Weatherization Assistance Program.     

This weatherization initiative is designed to offer comprehensive long-term energy conservation benefits to single family homeowners that meet the state and federal guidelines for low-income. Through donations, Share the Warmth has weatherized more than 170 homes since 2007, making homes more comfortable and utility bills more manageable for those in need.

“Often people only think about weatherization during the colder months of the year, however it is an ongoing effort to improve the living conditions of low-income Hoosiers, resulting in lower, more manageable utility bills” said Jeff Whiteside Vectren’s vice president of community sustainability and president of the Vectren Foundation.
