St. Thomas Medical Center Dedication and Open House

Just eighteen months after breaking ground at the corner of 13th and Bartley Streets, the staff of Jasper’s newest medical facility will host a dedication ceremony and open house for the public. The event at St. Thomas Medical Center is slated for Saturday, December 8, at 3:00 p.m. (EST) at 600 West 13th Street in Jasper. Most Reverend Charles C. Thompson, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Evansville, will bless the building during the ceremony which will take place outside, weather permitting, under the canopy at the South / 13th Street Entrance.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is encouraging anyone with memory concerns and those interested in learning about brain health to take part in its 10th annual National Memory Screening Days on November 13 and 14.

Thousands of sites nationwide will be offering free, confidential memory screenings and educational materials about memory problems and successful aging on these days.

There will be a screening at the Kmart Pharmacy Health and Wellness Center in the Jasper store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 14. Their phone number is (812) 482-9442.

End of Life Ethics educational forum in Jasper

The Pastoral Care staff at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center will present a special DVD program entitled “End-of-Life Ethics” on Tuesday, November 27 at 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Medical Arts Conference Center located in the Medical Arts Building at 721 W. 13th Street in Jasper. The three-hour program will present an educational forum in which a multidisciplinary panel of experts examine, using a case-study approach, the ethical issues and dilemmas that emerge at the end of life, the principles of ethical decision making, and the effects of these decisions on staff and families. The program and DVD are made possible by the Hospice Foundation of America.

Pediatrician Anna Csitkovits Gilley, M.D. was recently appointed to the Medical Staff at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Dr. Gilley received her medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where she also completed her internship and residency. She was Chief Resident in the Department of Pediatrics from 2009-2010.
