Steel beams stolen from Jasper Rubber Products

Jasper Police are looking for help solving the theft of steel beams from Jasper Rubber Products on First Avenue.  Officers say sometime between last Friday and this Wednesday, someone stole seven twenty foot beams. They were of a red, primer color.

Four of the beams were used to construct the four corners of a hoist frame, whiile the others went across the top, where the hoist would have been placed and would move across the top beams.

The hoist itself was not with the beams and was not taken.

The value of those beams is between $5000 and $6000.

Traffic stops lead to I-64 drug arrests

Two separate traffic stops along I-64 landed four people in jail Wednesday night.

The first traffic stop occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m. when a white 1995 Cadillac was pulled over at US 231 and I-64, near Dale, for a traffic violation.  During the stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted and troopers say the occupants of the vehicle were found to be in possession of marijuana.  The driver, Desiree L. Higgs, 23, Owensboro, was arrested for DUI.  She and her two passengers, also from Owensboro, were taken to the Spencer County Jail.

Then at approximately 10:15 p.m. near the Ferdinand exit, Clint L. Brosmer, 23, Bristow, was arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.  He was taken to the Dubois Dubois County Security Center.

Just how busy are those K-9 units that are part of the Indiana State Police?  Plenty. 

There are presently 28 full service K-9 teams statewide.  Last year, they were responsible for cash seizures totaling over $3.4 million, snared over a ton of marijuana and 106 pounds of cocaine.  They also helped make over 900 arrests.

In the Jasper Post, K-9's were responsible for the seizure of over $22,000 in criminal cash and helped made 151 arrests last year.

Police say a 22-year-old Jasper man who walked away from the Dubois County Work Release Center has been apprehended.

Andrew S. Bowman wasn't missing for long.

Deputies from the Dubois County Sheriff's Office and JPD say they canvassed the area and within minutes, located Bowman at 5th and Newton Streets.  He's now in the Dubois County Security Center.

Three people have been charged after the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says an attempt was made to mail a schedule III narcotic into the jail through the U.S. Postal Service. The piece of mail was addressed to inmate Kristen (Leonard) Bauer.

The Dubois County Free Press reports that after the discovery of the drug, deputies contacted the name on the return address, Justin Bauer, who told them he had gotten the the drug from Katrina Bauer.

All three are facing trafficking charges and are now in the Dubois County Jail.

Jasper police seek corrections center walkaway, stolen car

Jasper Police and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department are looking for a man who walked away from the county corrections facility and would like to question him about a stolen car.

Late Wednesday, a JPD officer was called to the Batteries Now warehouse on Newton Street after company owners’ Jeff and Monica Tunks had discovered one of their vehicles was missing.

Police say the walkaway, 46-year-old Mark A. Hanselman, is also wanted out of Kentucky on a parole violation.

The Dubois County Probation Department asked for assistance from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department in the search of an apartment in Celestine on suspicion of drug activity.

Officers found that the apartment of 29 year old Justin Adams in the 5400 block of East SR 164 contained items used in the manufacture of Methamphetamine along with the drug itself.
