Off-duty trooper nabs impaired driver after morning chase

From Indiana State Police:

Tuesday morning, February 28, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Trooper John Davis was off-duty and driving his fully marked patrol car westbound on S.R. 64 near the Gibson County line when he observed a Buick Park Avenue traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. 

Davis was able to activate his radar unit and clock the vehicle at 91 mph.  Davis attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued eastbound at a high rate of speed and at one point drove left of center near a hillcrest and forced several westbound vehicles off the roadway.  The vehicle continued north onto S.R. 61, but Davis terminated the chase once the vehicle entered Winslow.

Impaired driver crackdown begins Friday

Beginning Friday, March 2, troopers from the Indiana State Police, Jasper District will join with County and Local law enforcement agencies in the Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest, March crackdown on impaired and dangerous driving.

Through March 18, officers will work overtime to conduct high-visibility enforcement activities designed specifically to identify impaired drivers. Motorists will also see an increased number of patrols looking for aggressive drivers and unrestrained motorists during the 17-day mobilization.

Driving 100 MPH past trooper's house?  Bad idea

Indiana State Trooper Bill Gadberry was at home in Pike County about 3:25 a.m. Sunday when he heard a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed southbound on S.R. 257, just south of S.R. 56.

Gadsberry, who estimated the vehicle was going over 100 miles an hour,  jumped into his fully marked state police cruiser and took off after the driver.

Several minutes later, Gadsberry stopped the Ford Mustang at S.R. 257 and C.R. 900 East in Velpen.

2 Dubois County residents arrested for meth making in Holland

Three people have been arrested including two from Dubois County after sheriff's deputies and state police went to an address in Holland and say they found a meth lab Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say they found items used to manufacture meth as well as three grams of methamphetamine at 6929 West 1025 South in Holland.. The three subjects inside were taken into custody and transported to the Dubois County Security Center.

The Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab team dismantled the active lab.

Jasper Police have charged a local resident with shooting three deer with a bow and arrow inside the city limits and leaving them to die.

Passersby using the Riverwalk called police Wednesday after finding two deer that had been shot by arrows.  With the assistance from conservation officers, authorities determined they were shot in the area of 13th and Franklin Streets and ran to the wooded area of the Riverwalk where they died.

It's believed one deer had been shot three to four days earlier and the second sometime between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning.

Indiana Conservation Officers are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of whomever is responsible for shooting two deer, then leaving them to wander around the Riverwalk area and die.

Jasper Police were called about 11:15 Wednesday morning by passersby using the Riverwalk.  With the assistance from conservation officers, authorities determined the two deer were hit with arrows in the area of 13th and Franklin Streets and ran to the wooded area of the Riverwalk where they died.

Two arrested for home burglary

A second arrest has been made in connection with a burglary in Dubois County.  20-year-old Kyle Kelly of East Montgomery, Ind. was booked into the Dubois County Security Center and charged with aiding burglary and theft.

The sheriff's department says a home on Deerwood Lake Road was broken into February 6 when someone broke a walk-in garage door.

Cash and other items were taken in the burglary.

Last week, 25-year-old Derek J. Strange of Otwell was arrested on burglary and theft charges in connection with the case.
