Jasper man charged with DUI after hitting pole, leaving scene

A 23-year-old Jasper man was charged with drunk driving and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident Thursday night after police say he struck a utility pole and drove away.

Police say they received a call advising that a 1993 Ford Explorer was traveling east on 36th Street from Newton when it struck the pole near Walgreens.  The caller said the driver then got back on the road.

Tips from the public have led Jasper Police to locate the two juveniles responsible for taking pinwheels placed by the Dubois County Prosecutor’s office for Child Abuse Awareness month.

Two juveniles from Jasper, one age 16 and the other age 17, will be referred to the Dubois County Juvenile officer for Mischief.  The juveniles and their parents met with Jasper Police this afternoon and admitted their involvement.  Both juveniles stated to police that they did not know that the display of blue pinwheels was for Child Abuse Awareness month.

It was anything but an ordinary end to the day for Indiana State Police trooper Brock Werne.  Early Thursday morning,  Werne was driving toward his Jasper area residence near 47th Street and Portersville Road after ending his shift when he saw a man standing near an ATV in his neighbor’s driveway.  Werne also noticed a green Chevrolet pickup truck slowing down near the ATV. 

The truck’s bed contained a riding lawn mower and a dirt bike. 

When Werne turned around to investigate, the driver of the pickup truck drove away and the other male jumped on the ATV and fled the area.  Minutes later, the ATV crashed through Werne’s wood privacy fence and storage shed, which was located nearby.  The driver of the ATV ran away. 

Locomotive horns stolen; suspect out of state?

A train locomotive owned by the Indiana Railway Museum is missing its horns and Jasper Police think they know who took them.

Police say officers received a tip just after midnight Sunday that a local man may have been involved in the theft of the sound makers.  The locomotive was sitting on the tracks just west of Clay Street in Jasper.

ISP:  Drunk driver aboard ATV arrested after Pike Co. chase

Indiana State Police say a drunk driver aboard an ATV led them on a chase through Pike County before crashing early Sunday morning.

About 12:20 a.m.,  Winslow Police tried to stop a 2011 Yamaha ATV for traveling northbound on S.R. 61 north of town but the driver refused to stop and continued west on Sugar Ridge Road.  A state trooper joined the chase after the ATV crossed S.R. 57 and continued west on C.R. 125 South.

Rash of vehicle break-ins in Huntingburg

The Huntingburg Police Department is investigating several vehicle break-ins over the last week.

Vehicles parked in garages and driveways in the areas of South Park Drive, 4th Ave., West 3rd Ave., South Walnut and South Sycamore have been targeted.

Items are being stolen and vehicles ransacked in the process. 

Police are asking for the public's help.  If you see something suspicious, call 911.  You should also be sure to lock your vehicle if it's in public view.

Winslow man arrested for huffing with child in car

A 26-year-old Winslow man has been charged with Inhaling Toxic Vapors, Neglect of a Dependent, and Criminal Recklessness after he was found unresponsive  inside a vehicle at Staples Sunday.

An employee of the store had checked on the man and a small child at the request of a concerned custome who said the man and child had been there for a long period of time.
