Jasper man facing child neglect, huffing charges

A Dubois County man is arrested for huffing and child neglect.

Jasper Police say they found two girls walking along 3rd Avenue around 9 p.m. Sunday.  The girls told an officer they needed help because their dad had passed out.

Officers then went to 402 Geisler Road and took 34-year-old Wayne Hanshaw into custody.

About $2,000 worth of tools and power tools is missing from a Dubois business and the sheriff’s department is asking for help in solving the case.

According to our media partner, WITZ Radio, a burglary took place at the Wabash Valley Produce plant on Hickory Grove Road sometime between Sunday and Monday night.

Two Loogootee men have been arrested on charges of stealing water heaters, air conditioners and copper tubing from a property in Jasper last month.

Police tell our media partners at WITZ Radio that  50-year-old John Fraley and his 21-year-old stepson, Dustin Campbell were arrested after surveillance equipment put in place by Jasper Police placed the two men at the scene of the thefts in the 1300 block of Third Avenue.

A Jasper man is in jail on charges of manufacturing meth within 1,000 feet of a school.

A review of pseudoephedrine logs led officers to the home of Zechariah M. Stevens on East Ninth Street.

That’s where they say they found numerous items commonly used in the manufacturing of meth.

Update:  Jasper Police hunt for clues in five burglary cases

There have now been five burglaries in Jasper and police believe they’ve all been committed by the same person.

Denny's Auto on Third Avenue was the first business to be broken into.  That happened early this week.  Then, Paul’s Custom Service on Wernsing Road, R & P Auto and Truck Repair on McKinley Road and Grand Rental Station on MacAuthur Street all became victims.

Those break-ins happened after hours Tuesday and resulted in the loss of cash and merchandise.

The fifth burglary happened after the close of business Wednesday at Schmidt Contracting on Maurice Street. Jasper Police Detective Rick Chambers says police and sheriff's deputies have increased overnight patrols.

Police say residents should take precautions, especially in the overnight hours.

Pike County chase ends when car runs out of gas

A West Baden Spings man and his Petersburg passenger were arrested early Tuesday morning after a high speed chase in Pike County.

Indiana State Police say about 12:33 a.m., Trooper John Davis was patrolling S.R. 61 approximately two miles south of Petersburg when he saw a black 2005 Nissan traveling northbound at a high rate of speed.  Trooper Davis clocked the vehicle by radar at 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. 

The trooper began a pursuit but says the vehicle continued northbound at a high rate of speed before running out of gas on North 6th Street in Petersburg.

Man who led agencies on multi-county chase gets 11 1/2 years

The Pike County man who led police on a high speed chase through three tri-state counties back in April is sentenced to 11 ½ years in prison.

The final charges listed for 24-year-old Justin Gordan are criminal confinement, attempted armed robbery and fleeing in a vehicle.
