JPD seeks person who started fire at Bohnert Park shelter

Jasper Police say they're looking for the person who used a lighter to start a trash can fire on the southeast side of the shelter house at Bohnert Park late Friday night.

Police say at about 11:20 p.m., a male subject wearing a navy jacket, dark blue jeans and a black sock hat and another unidentified person used a lighter to ignite a blaze.

If anyone has any information about the incident, they're asked to contact JPD at 482-2255 or the anonymous tip line at 481-2677.

ISP says couple faces battery charges after argument with young children present

PIKE CO, IN (WFIE)- Wednesday night, around 9:30 p.m., Indiana State Police say they responded to 5073 South CR 1000 East near Velpen after Pike County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a battery between a boyfriend and his girlfriend. 

ISP says when troopers arrived at the home, Ashley Cruze, 23, answered the door. 

Troopers say they immediately observed multiple bruises on her face.

Cruze's boyfriend, Lucas Clements, 25, was also present and injuries were observed on his face.

Already in jail, Jasper man now facing rape charges

A 25-year-old Dubois County man is facing rape and sexual battery charges.

Gary Hires of Jasper was already in jail for a 2012 domestic battery charge when he was arrested on two felony counts stemming from what deputies say was an incident at his 6th Street home last Wednesday.

Our media partner, WITZ Radio reports a 25-year-old woman came to the Jasper Police Department stating she had been raped by Hires.  An investigation by JPD led to a warrant for his arrest which was served Wednesday morning.

Jasper Police arrest three in weekend burglary

Jasper police responded to a burglary in progress at the Dubois Apartments early Friday morning. 

When police arrived they found Amber Williams and Connie Kepley inside an apartment. Both Williams and Kepley were charged with burglary and residential entry. 

Police also arrested Jonathan Williams for burglary, residential entry and criminal mischief.

Jasper Police say they arrested a man for attempting to obtain credit cards in the names of other people in his apartment complex.

Police say they investigated a complaint late last month in which a victim reported someone was attempting to use their personal information to acquire credit cards.

Police searched the Village Court address of 35-year-old Paul Burrows and located the victim's information.

Jasper Police investigating burglaries

Jasper Police are investigating two residential burglaries that took place in the same area on Jasper’s east side on Tuesday.

Both happened during daylight hours.

The first happened in the 1300 block of Greene Street between 5:40 a.m. and 2:30 p.m and the second in the 600 block of East 13th Street sometime during daylight hours.

Jasper PD:  Man arrested after running away from accident

A 24-year-old Pike County man was arrested after police say he tried to run away from the scene of an accident Monday night.

Police say a 2005 Dodge Stratus driven by Jared F. Wilmes  hit the back of a 2002 Buick driven by Charlene Sharp of Jasper.  Wilmes then ran away but police say he was later located at the Calument Inn.
