Buy a duck; support Patoka 2000 | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Characters)
The 20th annual Patoka 2000 Duck Race will be held on Sunday, May 20 at 1:00 p.m. near the gazebo in the RiverWalk plaza area. Hundreds of ducks will compete in this unique event! You can sponsor a duck for $5 each or 3 for $10. Volunteers will man a table at Home Town IGA in Jasper various times throughout April and May. You can also stop in daily at the Jasper Chamber of Commerce at 302 West 6th Street and at various businesses in the downtown area.
Old Jasper Day and the Strawberry Festival will also be held on that same day. It is a day full of excitement and activities including train rides, carriage rides, a concert featuring the Celebration Singers, great food and the Jasper City Mill will be open, too.
Funds raised during the Duck Race will support the continuing efforts of Patoka 2000:
▪ New urns on the Patoka River Bridge
•Semi-annual clean-up of the Patoka Bridge Area
•Beautification of the Patoka Bridge Area, planting of flowers, spreading mulch, etc.
•Planting the flowers on the bridge for each season. Flags have now been added for added beautification.
•Re-greening and tree planting in the downtown areas of Jasper.
•One of our purposes is to plant trees where appropriate, preserve existing trees, promote the proper trimming of trees, and to be an educational resource to the community.
•Every tree we plant strengthens the global forest… connecting us to all who have gone before us and all who will follow.
•Annual tree recognition of an historical tree in Jasper on Arbor Day.
•Supporting the efforts to make Jasper a Tree City USA community.
•Making Earth Day and these events important for this area.
•Coordinating with VUJC in their terrific efforts in having a Green Campus and applauding them on becoming an official Tree Campus USA.
The Patoka 2000 beautification committee meets the second Thursday of each month at Azura Café and Deli at 8:00 a.m. If you are interested in joining Patoka 2000, wish to make a financial contribution or would just like to get involved – show up at a meeting or call the Jasper Chamber of Commerce for more information: 812/482-6866.
