Pumpkin patch opens Saturday at Family Roots Nursery

A new pumpkin patch opens this Saturday along the Dubois/Spencer County line.

There’s no charge to tour the grounds at Family Roots Nursery and see the fall flowers including homegrown mums and pumpkins.  You can see thousands of pumpkins and gourds of all shapes, colors and sizes.

Pumpkins start at $.33 each & go up to $25. Sampling of Apple Cider takes place all fall as well.  Several local made baked goods & home décor are also available for visitors to purchase.

Two new Jasper businesses will hold ribbon-cutting ceremonies this Friday.

The Cellular Connection at 3870 Newton Street and Edward Jones Investments at 5th and Jackson will kick off operations that morning.

Edward Jones will join other Chamber members in cutting the ribbon to its location at 10 a.m.

Peabody Coal will close Vincennes mine

Peabody Coal will close Vincennes mine

Area residents who work at the Air Quality Mine near Vincennes are out of a job.  Peabody Energy today said it has ceased production at the mine and will permanently close it based on soft market conditions.

Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letters were provided to approximately 230 employees, signaling a 60-day period to plan for a job transition.

Dubois County to hold 'Community Conversations'

Dubois County residents are invited to attend a series of Community Conversations this fall on the importance of place.  Each session will feature guest speakers and breakout sessions for attendees to discuss ways to maximize Dubois County’s strengths and position it for the future.

The three-part series, called “The importance of place: Who we are, what we are, and where we’re going,” will include a session in Jasper, Ferdinand, and Huntingburg.

ONB will close Winslow branch

Old National Bank is consolidating some of its branches in the Tri-State and the move will impact one of its Pike County branches.

The facility on State Road 61 in Winslow is closing and will consolidate operations with the bank's Huntingburg branch.

ONB, Old National Bancorp's banking subsidiary, announced today plans to sell or consolidate 27 banking centers as part of ongoing efficiency and service delivery improvements.

Old National to sell deposits of nine banking centers - subject to regulatory approval and the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.  Locations in Chrisney, Hatfield and Odon will also consolidate into other nearby facilities.

College faculty, staff visit Dubois, Spencer Counties

Forty-one faculty and staff members from the University of Southern Indiana, Ivy Tech Community College, University of Evansville, and Vincennes University boarded a motor coach on August 9 to visit Indiana regional businesses for tours and presentations for the seventh annual Day on the Bus event.

The event gave participants a glimpse at the inner workings of regional industries and an opportunity to identify potential research projects, network with peers, and learn how to prepare students for the workforce.
