Entrepreneurship Pillar to host brainstorming, creative idea event

The Entrepreneurship Pillar of the Ferdinand HomeTown Competitiveness (FHTC) initiative is hosting a free brainstorming and creative idea-sharing event on Saturday, November 10, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School’s cafeteria.

The sharing session will begin with a free pancake breakfast—with a bit of a twist.  It's an exercise in teamwork and networking as the group strives to build its creative and entrepreneurial base.

Ferdinand Chamber names Forest Park senior to Board of Directors

Continuing the Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce's efforts to engage youth in local government and commerce, a goal set forth by the Ferdinand HomeTown Competitiveness initiative, the Board has named Forest Park senior Marcia Jochem as a "junior" member of the Board of Directors.  She will assist the board in the decision-making process in a non-voting capacity.

"Marcia seems genuinely excited to be a part of the Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors," said Jim Mehling, Ferdinand's Chamber of Commerce President. "To be fair, we are equally as excited.  The infusion of youth is a welcome addition—and a beneficial one—to our Board of Directors."

Kimball earns Gov's award for Corporate Recycling Center

The Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence have been presented to seven organizations to honor their extraordinary efforts to protect and benefit Hoosiers and the environment. Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) Commissioner Thomas Easterly presented the awards yesterday during the 20th Annual Conference of the Association of Indiana Solid Waste Management Districts at PRIMO-West Conference Center in Plainfield.

Among the winners were the Town of Ferdinand in the Greening the Environment category and in Kimball International of Jasper in the Recycling/Reuse category.  The company earned the award for its Corporate Recycling Center.

The Jasper City Council has given its blessing to the expansion plans of two companies, paving the way for more jobs in Dubois County.

On Wednesday night, the council passed three resolutions, extending tax abatements to Stens Corporation and confirming the economic revitalization area for Meyer Distributing.

Dealers recognize National Office Furniture as Manufacturer of the Year for Casegoods

National Office Furniture, a brand unit of Kimball International, Inc., was recently announced as the Manufacturer of the Year Casegoods Category by the Office Furniture Dealers Alliance (OFDA). National earned this recognition by achieving the highest ratings from OFDA’s 2012 Dealer Choice Survey that measures key performance metrics in the dealer-manufacturer relationship such as training, product lines, service and support, sales and marketing, management and technology.

Over 2,000 dealers from across the nation completed the survey, where they were asked to rate their top-volume non-aligned suppliers in each of six product categories recognized by the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA).

Pumpkin patch opens Saturday at Family Roots Nursery

A new pumpkin patch opens this Saturday along the Dubois/Spencer County line.

There’s no charge to tour the grounds at Family Roots Nursery and see the fall flowers including homegrown mums and pumpkins.  You can see thousands of pumpkins and gourds of all shapes, colors and sizes.

Pumpkins start at $.33 each & go up to $25. Sampling of Apple Cider takes place all fall as well.  Several local made baked goods & home décor are also available for visitors to purchase.
