Dubois, Pike County residents selected for leadership program

Seventeen individuals including two from Dubois County and one from Pike County, have been selected to participate in USI’s 2013 Connect with Southern Indiana Program.

An annual regional leadership program, Connect with Southern Indiana was established through a grant from the Lilly Endowment in 2006 and is currently sponsored by USI’s Historic Southern Indiana.

Members of the Dubois Strong Board of Directors elected its officers for 2013 at its most recent meeting.

Marc Steczyk (Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce) will serve as Chairman, Dr. Alan Johnson (Vincennes University Jasper Campus) as Vice Chairman, Jim Huebner (OFS Brands) as Treasurer, and Mayor Terry Seitz (City of Jasper) as Secretary. Joining the officers on the Executive Committee will be Neil Dauby (German American), Randy Fleck (Dubois County Commissioner), and Mayor Denny Spinner (City of Huntingburg).

The Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors elected officers for 2013 at its December meeting.  Jim Mehling (Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School) will serve as President, Pat Miller (Best Home Furnishings) as Vice President, Chris Welp (TIC Plus) as Treasurer, and Sr. Barbara Lynn Schmitz (Sisters of St. Benedict) as Secretary.  Completing the Ferdinand Chamber’s Board of Directors are Diane Hoppenjans (Tin Lizzie’s), Alan Hoffman (Sisters of St. Benedict), Luke Tieken (Luke’s Barber Shop), and Brian Tretter (Seufert Construction). 

Marcia Jochem, a senior at Forest Park, will continue to serve on the Board as a “junior” member in a non-voting capacity.

Kimball Hospitality expanding; will add 20 jobs

Kimball Hospitality, Inc., a brand unit of Kimball International in Jasper, announced plans today to expand its operations, creating up to 20 new jobs.

The company, which produces custom furnishings for the global hospitality industry, will invest $932,000 to install advanced manufacturing machinery at its 196,000 square-foot facility in Jasper. The expansion will increase capacity for the company's case goods furniture product line which includes program and catalog offerings for hospitality guestrooms.

Personnel moves at Jasper Engines

Jasper Engines & Transmissions has announced changes within the company’s leadership positions.

John Schroeder has been named Vice President of Drivetrain Manufacturing.  Hewill coordinate the Transmission Divisions at Jasper and Crawford County, Indiana, and Willow Springs, Missouri, along with the Differential Division at the Jasper facility. He has served roles in the People Department (Human Resources), Division Manager of Crawford Transmission and the Jasper Production System (JPS) over his 12 years with JASPER.

Joe Haug has been named Manager of the Transmission Division at the Crawford County facility. Joe spent many of his 33 years within the Transmission Division prior to becoming a Group Leader at Crawford many years ago.

Mark Balsmeyer has been named Director of the Jasper Production System (JPS).

Jasper Engines creating new jobs with $550,000 investment

Jasper Engine Exchange, Inc. (Jasper Engines), an engine and transmission remanufacturer, announced plans today to expand its headquarters here, creating up to 40 new jobs by 2016.

The homegrown-Hoosier company, which remanufactures drivetrain components, will invest $550,000 to update and equip its current 367,000 square-foot facility at 815 Wernsing Road in Jasper. The expansion will accommodate Jasper Engines growing alternative fuels division, remanufactured diesel engine related product line and support the increased production of gas engines for the Canadian Postal Service.

"Once again, Jasper Engines is recognizing that Indiana is a cost-effective environment to further grow its business," said Dan Hasler, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. "Our favorable business climate continues to draw investment and new jobs to all corners of our state and we're happy that today Jasper is the beneficiary of good news."

New management for Dubois Co. Bombers

The Dubois County bombers have new owners.

Our media partner, WITZ, reports that a group of local business-owners and residents has purchased the baseball operation. 

 Dubois County Baseball, LLC. will take over leadership of the Bombers as of December 1.

 “League Stadium has such a rich history and is the perfect setting to enjoy America’s favorite pastime in a family-friendly atmosphere, “ said Mike Uebelhor, Bombers managing partner.

Wes Fink will be the new coach and Skip Kruger takes over as general manager.
