Music in the Park returns Saturday in Huntingburg

 

Music in the Park is back.  Area residents are invited to bring their lawn chairs and listen to acoustic music from local artists in the Huntingburg City Park. 

On Saturday, May 11, Music is in the Park will be “Celebrating Mothers” with free carnation to the 1st 70 mothers in attendance from Gehlhausen’s Garden & Gifts Store.

Music from the 1950s and 1960s is on the slate with Performers Kevin Charles, Gayle Parks & Guest.

The event is free and gets underway at 6:30 p.m.

The Green Room Rockers are set to return for a Ferdinand Folk Festival fundraiser to be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Gaslight on Huntingburg’s historic Fourth Street.  The show is set to begin at 8 p.m. (EST).  Former Forest Park student, Perry Clark, is the band’s drummer.

The band performed on the Main Stage at the 2011 Ferdinand Folk Festival and at a fundraiser for the fest in the winter of 2012.  The GRR’s music is self-described as being “…soul sonic, blues drenched sounds of reggae and ska”.

Forest Park grad earns prestigious UE music scholarship

 

Kaitlin Emmert of Ferdinand has been named this year's Presser Undergraduate Scholar by the University of Evansville Department of Music.

The scholarship award is given annually to a rising senior music major at UE, selected by the music faculty on the basis of excellence and merit.

Emmert, a graduate of Forest Park High School, is majoring in music therapy with a minor in psychology and a certificate in Suzuki pedagogy. She plays violin in the University Symphony Orchestra and String Ensemble.

The Ferdinand Folk Festival committee has announced the Main Stage music lineup for its fourth annual festival to be held in September.

Boscoe France Band to perform at Folk Fest announcement

The lineup of musicians set to hit the main stage at the fourth annual Ferdinand Folk Festival will be announced on Saturday, March 16,at a performance by the Boscoe France Band at Ferdinand’s American Legion (425 Main Street, Ferdinand). 

“We are incredibly fortunate to have a musician of Boscoe’s caliber to help us kick off our 2013 Folk Fest activities,” said Marc Steczyk, Ferdinand’s Town Manager.  “2013 looks to be a great year for the Ferdinand Folk Festival and I can’t think of a better way to start it than with the incomparable Boscoe France Band.  This will truly be a night to remember.”

A native of Madisonville, Kentucky, France gained national attention late last year when he took home the top honor in the Guitar Center’s “Battle of the Blues” competition in California. 

Huntingburg musician featured on national radio show

Huntingburg musician, Tim Hopper, was recently featured as part of the monthly Coast to Coast AM "Emerging Artists" bumper music.

On the first Sunday of every month the program features bumper music submitted by independent artists.

Redbird, an instrumental from Hopper's self-produced CD "American Native", went out on the world wide AM broadcast as well as short wave and the military radio channel. http://www.coasttocoastam.com/article/emerging-artists-1-6-13

Marching bands all over Indiana competed in the Semi-State competition on Saturday at four different Indianapolis high schools.

Both Southridge and Forest Park were among the bands earning a trip to the finals next week.  Here's the complete list:
