Maintenance supervisor, teacher are latest Peabody Leaders

 

A staff member and a teacher at two Dubois County area schools have been named Peabody Energy Leaders in Education.

Randall Sickbert of Ferdinand Elementary and Julie Schnell of Jasper High School were each  awarded $1,000 for their compassion and commitment to students.

ATF, marshals, police arrest two for check fraud

 

Two Dubois County residents have been arrested on felony fraud charges and police they’re not done looking into the extent of their activity.

Jasper Police say 22-year-old Shawen W. Smith, who also went by Shawen W. Kinningham, and 20-year-old David G. Slaton were taken into custody by US Marshals, ATF agents and members of the Jasper Police Department while at Hotel LeMerigot in Evansville.

SUV rolls on Old Road 64

A Dubois County woman escaped serious injury Wednesday afternoon when her SUV flipped and struck a utility pole.

The sheriff's department says 33-year-old Crystal Bowman of Holland was heading westbound east of SR 161 when she inadvertently drove off the north side of the road, overcorrected, then ran off the road again and rolled over.  The Ford Explorer broke the utility pole belonging to Dubois REC and came to rest in the road, facing north.

Bowman was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without Financial Responsibility.  The SUV was a total loss.

Green Room Rockers in Folk Fest fundraiser Saturday

 

The Green Room Rockers are set to return for a Ferdinand Folk Festival fundraiser to be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Gaslight on Huntingburg’s historic Fourth Street.  The show is set to begin at 8 p.m. (EST).  Former Forest Park student, Perry Clark, is the band’s drummer.

The band performed on the Main Stage at the 2011 Ferdinand Folk Festival and at a fundraiser for the fest in the winter of 2012.  The GRR’s music is self-described as being “…soul sonic, blues drenched sounds of reggae and ska”.

Jasper Police say they have arrested a 27-year-old woman for stealing a variety of items from her parents' home. Kristy L. Padgett, the daughter of Sharon Keller, is facing burglary, theft, fraud and residential entry charges.

Police say they were called to a home on Margaret Drive Monday afternoon on a burglary report. There were no signs of a break-in but missing from the residence was a camera, ladies ring, X-box games, alcohol and three credit/debit cards belonging to Sharon Keller.

Horse riding is a widely recognized and progressive form of therapy.  It is a thoroughly enjoyable experience which creates a special relationship between the rider and the horse.
