Arts Commission approves changes to regional partner boundaries

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) is making modifications to some of its Regional Arts Partnership boundaries.  At its recent Quarterly Business Meeting, the Commission unanimously approved the changes that will shift IAC Regional Arts Partner service responsibilities for seven counties. Counties which previously made up the IAC’s Region 11 will now be served by other regional providers.

Jasper and Huntingburg are picking up live, discarded Christmas trees.  The Jasper Street Department is picking them up now curbside. Residents are asked to take everything off of the trees before moving them to the curb.

Huntingburg Street Superintendent Rich Thyen says that his department will begin picking up the trees on Tuesday, January 3, through Jan. 20.  Residents don’t need to call for pickup, just place them curbside.

The Dubois County Probation Department asked for assistance from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department in the search of an apartment in Celestine on suspicion of drug activity.

Officers found that the apartment of 29 year old Justin Adams in the 5400 block of East SR 164 contained items used in the manufacture of Methamphetamine along with the drug itself.

Huntingburg Police are investigating a theft from a local business.

Sometime Monday afternoon, someone stole several 70 pound brake drums from the back of Perkins Specialized Transport.

The business told police the thieves would want to scrap them.

Ind. Dept. of Education announces 4-star schools

INDIANA (WFIE)-

The Indiana Department of Education has released the list of 2010-2011 Four Star Schools Thursday.

Out of 1,780 public schools, 162 received honors.

"Today serves as an opportunity to recognize the great work of educators throughout Indiana," Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett said.

To be considered a Four Star School, a school must finish in the Top 25th percentile when compared to schools statewide in several key tests.
